Professional Development Activities

We organize a variety of events to help bridge the gap between academia and industry, providing students with the skills and network they need to succeed.

Summer Research Symposium

At the end of every summer, CSChE hosts a Summer Research Symposium which serves as a local Reg Friesen Oral Paper and Robert G. Auld Student Paper Competition. The judges, consisting of chemical engineering professors and PhD candidates, provide valuable feedback to participants to improve both their research and presentation skills.

Plant Tours

Plant tours enable students to participate in guided tours of plants and operations in the industry. It allows students to connect their academic experience to real-world applications.

Past locations: Portlands Energy Centre (natural gas power plant), the R.C. Harris Water Treatment Plant, and the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute.

Research Days

Students attend Research Days to gain knowledge about the topics of research professors are currently working on in the faculty. At the end of the session, there is a networking opportunity to speak with professors, making this the perfect chance to find summer research positions and thesis supervisors.

Professor-Student Mixer

This event provides a platform for students to communicate with their professors in an intimate and friendly environment. It also provides an opportunity for first year students to meet their would-be and future professors. We play trivia games and have a fun time with food and drinks.
